Film Club: Big Plans
As of yesterday I was made the co-president of the Colby Film Club. The other/former president is abroad in Paris for the semester.
Last semester we only had two meetings, and nothing else happened. This semester will be different. We’re going to have:
- Bi-Weekly meetings
- Film screenings
To encourage amateur filmmaking:
- A filmmaker network so directors can find actors, editors,...
Great Weekend
On Saturday we had the biggest meet yet of the season. It was against Bates, one of our arch rivals (the other being Bowdoin). Bates was supposed to beat us because they had recruited so many outstanding freshmen, but the Mule didn’t take anything from the Bobcat, and we crushed them into the ground 155-115. I swam the 1000, the 500, and the anchor on the 400 Free Relay. I don’t...
Strategy
I just got two emails from my coach: one with the Hy-tek results from the Colby vs. MIT meet, and one with the Hy-tek results from the Bowdoin vs. Bates meet, both of which happened last Saturday.
I was going through the 500 times, and I realized that it doesn’t really do much just to look at the numbers, so I plugged every 500 swimmer from Colby, Bates, and Bowdoin into Numbers and...

MIT Meet
I just received the lineup for the MIT Meet this weekend, and I’m swimming the 1650 free, the 500 free, and the final 400 free relay. It’s a home meet, so my friends are coming to watch.
I was holding 55-56’s in the Michigan 100’s on Wednesday (6x100 on 8 mins), and coach Grey told me that translated into around a 5:00 500, so as long as I don’t explode in the...
Classes
I’m taking a film class for Jan Plan, and it’s really interesting. So far, the movies of note that we have watched are: Brute Force and Treasure of the Sierra Madre. It’s taught by a retired Colby professor. His lectures are really stimulating because he’s always full of new concepts and ideas.
I also signed up for a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class that meets twice a week and I had the first...
Puerto Rico and Moving Rooms
Puerto Rico and Moving Rooms
Puerto Rico was great, but very tiring. We had 13 practices over the span of a week, and the first day was comprised of 14,000 meters. My arms had never felt so tired. But the team got a lot closer during the trip, and I finally know everybody.
I had to get back to Colby on January 1st for swim practices before Jan Plan started. They were pretty hard, and in...
See my room(s) with Google maps
My old room
It has 2 windows on the 2nd floor, right next to the corner on the right.
Ah, you can’t really get to my new room with the google street view, but if you look through the woods here you might be able to see it. Also, here’s the normal google map of it. (It’s the westernmost square looking one).
Hey
I’m back at Colby. I can’t write very much because I’m super busy. I have two swim practices today, and in between those I have to box up all my stuff and move it across campus. I’ll take pictures of my new room when I get there. As for now, I got some boxes to pack.
